This does happen. This one is a 19th century carved Black Forest hunt theme plaque mounted into a wall hanging towel rack. It's charming as can be, dates c. 1880 1910 or so, shows a hunting hound and grouse, several bunnies set into a cutaway forest scene. That plaque is in a walnut looking stain, lighter in color than the background
